Through video conference the chairman of HWPL Lee Man – hee has focused his speech on peace around the world in general and specifically in the peninsular region in East Asia. Since 1945, it has been divided with North Korea comprising its northern half and South Korea comprising its southern half.

“I fought in the front line in civil war that divided brothers to brothers,” he said. “ It is an atrocity when brother kill another brother.” As an advocate of peace Mr. Lee said that the unification of North and South Korea needs to happen. “ Korea needs to be reunified as one, there is not any reason to reject it,” he added.

The event was also an opportunity to talk about the role of the media in the quest for peace. Ms. Cecilia Ologunagba and Imam Muhammad Shahidullah agreed that media can play a key role in time of war by promoting harmony, tolerance, and peace.
